At 17 weeks, I can report that I'm starting to, occasionally, under certain circumstances, "feel pregnant". For example, while pelvic thrusting and jumping simultaneously during Zumba, I distinctly had the sensation that there was, in fact, something like a big water balloon occupying real estate in my lower belly. (I like the image of our baby being bounced around to "Gangnam style" during my workouts.) When I'm jumping around at work, standing, sitting, crouching (yes, midwives crouch), this ballotable blob makes itself known. I don't think I am feeling fetal movement, just the orb of uterus and fluid that encases the one and a half ounce fetus.
And now we've started to consider the serious questions that any crunchy expectant parent encounters: what kind of cloth diapers to get? Between the more expensive but simpler all-in-ones, to the less expensive but slightly more work pocket diapers, bamboo fiber vs organic cotton. Holy shit does it get complicated! My original plan to buy a stash of second hand cloth diapers off of craigslist has been a bit of a fail as I have not seen a single used cloth diaper posted. Then there is the site Clothdiapertrader.com where you can purchase second hand diapers, and Jilliansdrawers.com out of NYC that sells gently used clothies, oh boy, too many choices. For now, we've decided to do half all in ones and half pockets but I'll wait to purchase any until I'm sure that none will show themselves on craigslist. So, all is well in gravid-land. My mini-pouch continues to grow, and I love it. I just want people to keep their hands off and show their love for me in other ways, which my coworkers have done, by keeping me stocked with my favorite candy that I can't find anywhere on-island: twizzlers.
